Content Format Intelligence
Metrics & AuditContent Format Intelligence is a methodology that identifies which content formats Google favors for specific queries by analyzing structural patterns in top-ranking results. This approach examines whether the top 10 results consistently use FAQ sections, comparison tables, numbered lists, nested H3 structures, BLUF in the first 50 words, infographics, or embedded video to determine format preferences beyond basic content attributes.
This methodology complements traditional competitive gap analysis by adding a format dimension. While gap analysis reveals missing content attributes from the EAV model, Content Format Intelligence reveals missing structural elements. If 8 out of 10 top results use comparison tables while your content doesn't, this signals a strong format preference to adopt. Together, these analyses provide complete optimization guidance that addresses both content gaps and structural preferences.
For example, if the top 10 for 'types of leasing' all have comparison tables with columns for 'type/feature/advantage/disadvantage' and your article is plain text — format becomes the priority fix. Before writing any article, review top 5 results for format patterns (lists, tables, FAQ, video) and adopt the dominant format as your baseline.
