Antonyms (Comparisons)
Lexical SemanticsAntonyms are words with opposite meanings, such as new/used, expensive/cheap, or diesel/electric. In AI Search they play a important role because they activate comparison frames — Query Fan-out often generates sub-queries of the 'X vs Y' type, and the Competitive heuristic, based precisely on comparisons, has the highest weight in AI Search (+1.61 in a study of 52 thousand products). Using antonyms in content covers comparison questions automatically generated by AI during intent decomposition.
A practical example is a section on 'operating lease vs loan', which answers a sub-query that AI will generate when asked about car financing, while simultaneously activating the most effective optimization heuristic. When planning an article, it's worth identifying 3-5 antonym pairs for the Central Entity and creating comparison sections with criteria tables from them. Antonyms are particularly valuable because they combine the two strongest strategies: covering sub-queries from fan-out and the Comparative format from Frame Semantics.
